Dual Credit Program

Your student can earn an Associates Degree (Liberal Arts or Theology) here at Queen of the Apostles Preparatory Academy. We integrate the Ignatius-Angelicum ‘Great Books’ program starting at age 14, along with online courses from Holy Apostles College, offering qualified students the option to earn an Associate’s degrees (A.A.) at the completion of 12th grade.

The Holy Apostles’ Associate’s degrees require 60 credits. Students who begin the Ignatius-Angelicum Liberal Studies, four-year Great Books Program in 9th grade (minimum age 14, and up), may transfer 45 credits completed from that from that four-year program to Holy Apostles College in addition to a possible 12 credits from Angelicum’s online Theology courses with Fr. Fessio.

Holy Apostles then allows 11th and 12th grade high school students (with a minimum 2.5 GPA) to take 15 (or more) credits online. Combined, this allows students to earn a total of 60-75 college credits by their completion of 12th grade. Such students may then enroll in the Holy Apostles Associate’s degree program that same month, and receive their A.A. degree in Liberal Arts at the summer term graduation of the same year or they can apply the credits directly to a bachelor’s degree.

Great Books Program

The Great Books Program consists of eight semesters (four years) of online classes meeting 2 hours per week, September-May, discussing the reading from one of the great classics of Western civilization – Great Books – done that week.  Students do the weekly Great Books reading and meet for a two-hour weekly discussion with two highly experienced moderators very familiar with the readings, and up to 22 students online (average is about 18), including some from various States and often from various countries. Two 900-1000 word (or 1800-2000 in the college tracks) essays are required each semester. Students have a month to do each, and are allowed revisions to improve the grade, if necessary. Students take an online oral exam online at the end of each semester.

The Dual Credit Program is made possible by the dynamic relationship of Holy Apostles College (est. 1957) and Angelicum Academy (est. 2000) . Both entities, strong in Catholic Education, have combined to offer dual credits.

Holy Apostles College and the Great Books Program are both recommended by the Cardinal Newman Society’s The Newman Guide to Choosing a Catholic College. Holy Apostles College is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) and by the State of Connecticut Board of Higher Education.
